Child's Leap, Elder's Gift

3 April 2016

The service is co-organised with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth groups Jockey Club Ping Shek Youth S.P.O.T.while participants and grass-root children were invited to participate in the equal sharing campaign. They shared their possessions with the elderly in Choi Hung. Through this activity, they could understand more about the daily lives of the elderly as well as expressing care to them.

After ice-breaking games, participants and grass-root children separated into different groups and went to different parts of Choi Hung to deliver gifts to the elderly. After they accomplished the equal sharing campaign, they reflected their most memorable moment during the day through drawing and shared their insights with all of us. A child expressed that she felt so blessed to have a stable life as some elderly would only receive $5 for every 100 cans collected. Our final highlight came when participants and children wrote letter in remembrance of the day to each other about their in-depth feelings. This event hopes to spread the idea of equal sharing campaign, as participants shared their time, food, etc. to others in the community using equal identity. The aim of the event is to share but not to relieve. Sometimes, what the elderly need are not monetary rewards but our care. If we are willing to spend just a few minutes to talk to them, they are already satisfied.

Last but not least, it is never too late to show care and love to people around us. So next time when you meet the needy in the community, try to chat with them. Use actions to deliver love, build mutual trust and add colors to our ordinary life! Many thanks to the Hong Kong Federation of Youth groups Jockey Club Ping Shek Youth S.P.O.T and all the participants! Now let’s enjoy the selected photos taken during the function!
